In Cantonese, there are two ways of saying thank you: 多謝 (dau jeh) and 唔該 (mm goy)*. Most who’ve grown up using the language sense when to use it intuitively, but to non-native speakers it may take that extra second to process.
Generally:
use ‘dau jeh’ for receiving material things
use ‘mm…
